Hullo I'k new to this board,
I bought a hamster a week ago and 4 days agone i saw all the signs of wet tail, even thoe the reviews of dri tail are not slap-up i bought information technology anyway, this is my first hammy with this trouble, well right away i started the dri tail treatment by hand, she don't drink h2o and i have 50/50 water, pedialyte i did read that they tin dice within 48 hours of symptoms and it has been 4 days and she is still alive i give her the dri tail daily and every 2 hours the water mixture too as keeping her clean with a warm towel, then drying her i have only had her a week only refuse to let her die of Aridity, i'g trying the best that i can to nurse her back to health, i think afterwards 4 days i must be doing something right. but ane of my questions is how long can she get without nutrient? she'southward non eating or drinking except the water i force on her, she is very weak and stumbles. i cannot strength her to swallow a seed, and my other question is now that it'south been four days does she have a chance?
thanks for your input.
Patty

Hmmmm maybe you could call your closest vet to you they tin tell you lot what is all-time to do. I know information technology tin can really assist, I even chosen a normal vet that wasn't a specialist in rodents who still knew pleanty about hamster diseases. Practiced Luck!

dri tail won't help..it just masks symptoms :undecided:

get to your vet & accept them perscribe baytril..this is an antibiotic& shouldnt cost much...
keep going with the pedialyte/h2o,and make certain the hammy is warm& comfortable...you should also gve some plain, unflavored yogurt while your hamster is on baytril, every bit it takes away some of the good bacteria in the system..yogurt volition help that.

good luck & go on united states updated!

It doesn't price any coin to telephone call a vet, they could give you some advice that could amend your hamster'due south run a risk of living.

hmmm 4 days doesn't exactly really matter because your hamster isn't eating. The first 48 hours is the highest chance of your hamster dying only your hamster notwithstanding has a loftier chance of dying.

Peradventure you could become some soft nutrient that a hamster can eat, put it in a syringe and force your hamster to eat it. I'm not exactly sure what food you could use and how much merely I'm sure someone else can elp y'all out with that question.

Yes, handling your hamster before the first week is almost the worst thing you could exercise to a hamster equally it can exist very stressful. I made the blow you fabricated by handling my hamster too presently and he had wet tail and passed away, he just lived for 4 days.

I'g really deplorable you have to go through this, and good luck to you and your hamster! Anybody has to dice eventually and information technology could be at a young age or an old age information technology's only function of life and if your hamster passes away or if your hamster doesn't laissez passer abroad either way it will exist meant to exist and you lot can't change what was meant to happen. Hopefully your hamster will go through this! Once again, Skilful Luck!!

okay...only handle your hammy when you lot are giving her medicine. dont feed hder any soft human foods like fruits and veggies, just yogurt and pedialyte are fine, stay with the regular nutrient mix

Since she seems "weak" attempt giving her just Ane slice of shredded mozarrella or shredded cheese every 24-hour interval and run across if that helps...

Syrians are very susceptible to moisture-tail the start week. The thing y'all have to understand is that wet-tail is a disease, one they cannot overcome without the proper antibiotics. I am non proverb this to be cruel, I but want y'all to know the reality of the situation.

Yous tin try calling and asking for a prescription from the vet. Explain that you understand it is wet-tail, but you cannot afford a vet visit. Perhaps they will give you a prescription without the vet visit.

If you admittedly cannot exercise this, and so the all-time matter yous can do is try to ease your hamster's suffering. Identify a heating pad Nether ane corner of your hamster's cage to go along your hamster warm and comfy. Do not identify information technology completely under the muzzle considering and then your hamster cannot retreat if he wants to.

Continue with the pedialyte. You can keep with the yogurt. Attempt not to interact with your hammie too much. Since it is a new hamster, information technology is quite possible that the stress of the interaction and existence sick may be as well much for him. Yous can attempt talking to it soothingly however.

If possible, endeavour and get some Timothy Hay for your little i. It tin can nest with it and crumb on it. Timothy is excellent for their digestive track.

I truly promise I am wrong and your fiddling 1 comes out of it. It is e'er hard to watch our footling ones when they are ill and I wish yous the very all-time.

i have given her dri tail, kaopectate. i was worried almost the lack of food from her not eating i grinded up oatmeal and added water to brand a watery cereal, plus the baby rice cereal, she loves it then much and today existence the 5th 24-hour interval she has opened her eyes after eating got kind of agile walking much faster and went up and down her slide, still stumbling thoe but really moving alot faster i gave her a paper towel and she worked to go it into her outpost i reached in and helped her push it through, withoput her knowing i helped! i called the vet and they told me they cannot give me baytril without a examination which is $41.50 and the baytrill is very expensive, i know i shouldn't accept animals if i don't accept a fill-in we to treat them i guess i didn't retrieve about information technology all i tin exercise is what i accept been doing thanks all for your aid, she does seem so much improve today
